A friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine has been called off after Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch.

Denmark’s national team later said on social media that the midfielder was conscious. In another post, national team doctor Morton Boesen said: “He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly.”

Video of the match showed Eriksen grab his chest in the 65th minute of the game. The footage then showed players and staff calling for medical attention, with Eriksen lying on the pitch.

“Christian Eriksen is conscious and, under the circumstances, doing well,” the Danish football federation said in a post on X. “The match is called off.”

The Denmark midfielder previously collapsed during a Euro 2020 game against Finland in 2021. In that instance, he received CPR on the pitch and was then carried from the field on a stretcher. He was later fitted with a pacemaker.

“Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself,” Boesen said on the team’s social media. “As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should.

“He was briefly unconscious, but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him.

“He will now undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. We are in ongoing contact with him and the doctors at the hospital.

“But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was okay.”

Neither Denmark nor Ukraine have qualified for the World Cup.
