European champions Paris Saint-Germain have further boosted their squad ahead of the new season with the signing of Belgium winger Mika Godts from Ajax.
PSG announced the transfer on Saturday, with Godts signing a five-year contract in Paris. The 21-year-old moved for a transfer fee that could be worth up to €55 million ($63.6m), including add-ons, Ajax said.
“I feel incredibly proud to be joining one of the best clubs in the world,” Godts said as part of PSG’s announcement. “I can’t wait to pull on this shirt and experience the Parc des Princes and its supporters.
“I’ll give my all on the pitch to repay the faith placed in me by President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Luis Campos and coach Luis Enrique.”
Godts registered 17 goals and 13 assists in his breakout campaign in the Dutch Eredivisie last season. He made his debut for Belgium in a March friendly against the United States before being surprisingly excluded from their World Cup squad this summer.
“Mika is an excellent player with very specific qualities, and we are going to miss him tremendously,” Ajax technical director Jordi Cruyff said. “We did not want to lose him and would have preferred to keep him here for at least another season. However, when you perform at Ajax at such a high level, clubs of this caliber come knocking.”
Godts arrived at PSG on the same day that the French giants confirmed the signing of Spanish World Cup hero Ferran Torres from Barcelona for a total package of around €50 million ($57.8m).
He also joins amid continued uncertainty around the future of PSG winger Bradley Barcola.
ESPN has reported that Barcola is top of Liverpool‘s wishlist in their pursuit of a wide forward this summer, and that the club have held preliminary talks with his representatives.
Barcola is keen on a move to Anfield, sources said, but while there has been contact between Liverpool and PSG there remains a gap in their respective valuations of the winger.
The France international, who is out of contract in 2028, is thought to be valued at around €150 million ($173.5m).
