Rafael Leão free to leave AC Milan amid Galatasaray, Aston Villa links – Ruben Amorim

AC Milan coach Ruben Amorim believes it will be better for Rafael Leão “to move on” and leave the club in this transfer window.

The Portuguese forward, who is a reported target of Galatasaray and Aston Villa, is on Milan‘s transfer list and was left out of the squad for Friday’s Serie A game against Venezia.

“Leão is an excellent footballer and, with the right mindset, he can play for any team in the world,” Amorim said in Thursday’s news conference.

“However, you need to have the right mindset, and sometimes in football there comes a time when it’s better to move on. And that’s the situation we’re in today.”

Leão, 27, revealed earlier this summer that he needed a new challenge in a different league after seven seasons at AC Milan.

“I’ve already given my all at Milan,” he told Sport TV before joining Portugal’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. “It’s a club that helped me grow a great deal and supported me through the tough times.”

Leão joined Milan from Lille in 2019 and has made 291 appearances for the club, providing 80 goals and 61 assists and winning the 2021-22 Serie A title.

Under contract with the Rossoneri until June 2028, Leão returned to train with the squad earlier this week having missed Milan’s league opener, a 2-1 win at Torino on Aug. 23.
