Christian Pulisic was an unused substitute as Ruben Amorim continued his perfect start to Serie A life at AC Milan with a 2-0 win over Venezia on Friday.

Pulisic was back in Milan‘s squad for the first time since suffering a bone bruise and microfracture in his lower leg in the United States’ defeat to Belgium to exit the World Cup at the round of 16 on July 6.

But he wasn’t needed on Friday as former Manchester United manager Amorim backed up Milan’s opening victory at Torino by seeing off Venezia at the San Siro.

Gonçalo Ramos scored his first goal for the club following his summer move from Paris Saint-Germain, with Redouane Halhal’s late own goal securing the points.

Before the game, Milan paid an emotional tribute to Franco Baresi with a minute’s silence following the legendary former defender’s recent death.

The hosts dominated from the off and Ramos, a €74million signing from PSG, could have opened the scoring in the 12th minute as a solo run saw him enter the penalty area, but goalkeeper Filip Stankovic did well to keep the ball out.

It was not all one-way traffic as Akor Adams and John Yeboah had opportunities for Venezia before the break.

Ramos had a header brilliantly saved by Stankovic while U.S. international Yunus Musah crashed a close-range effort against the crossbar either side of the break.

Ramos eventually got his goal in the 69th minute as he was played in by Alexis Saelemaekers and clinically finished into the bottom corner.

Milan killed the game at the end as Halhal scored a comical own goal.

Ardon Jashari was sent through on goal and his shot hit Stankovic and rebounded off the Venezia defender and into the net.

PA contributed to this report.
