Wrexham sign Joe Worrall; close to Callum O’Hare deal – sources

Wrexham have announced the signing of Burnley centre back Joe Worrall and are closing in on a deal to bring in Sheffield United’s Callum O’Hare, sources have told ESPN.

The deal for Worrall, 29, is understood to be in the region of £2 million ($2.7m) while talks continue regarding O’Hare.

The deal for O’Hare could reach £7m ($9.4m) with Wrexham optimistic of completing that move.

Wrexham have started the 2026-27 season with two draws and a loss in the Championship and are looking to bolster their squad before the window shuts on Tuesday evening.

The club announced on Monday that Conor Coady has departed by mutual consent, and they have moved quickly to bring in another centre back with Worrall signing from their Championship rivals. He has been at Burnley since 2024 after joining from Nottingham Forest and played 11 times for them in the Premier League last term.

“I’m really pleased to be here,” Worrall said. “I’m super excited to get my teeth into working with good players, the manager and the ownership. I’m here to win football matches and achieve something special.

“Everything that Wrexham’s about, I’m going to throw myself into it head-first and give my all for this badge.”

O’Hare will add to Wrexham’s options at attacking midfield and the news of his departure will come as a big blow to Chris Wilder’s plans at Sheffield United.

“I’m not surprised there’s been interest,” Wilder said on Monday. “For me personally, I wouldn’t want [O’Hare] to go. But I understand that there’s a bid in, and it’ll be dealt with the certain people that deal with these things.

“This is not a criticism but I think Wrexham are in for half of the division as well. So, they’ve done business and that’s their prerogative and what they need to do. But I know that there have been bids in on other players from that football club, in that position, as well.

“I know they’ve been in for a number of players, which is, as I said, what they can do at this particular situation and point of the window. And Callum’s one of them.”
