Former United States defender Matt Miazga is set to join New York City FC, a source confirmed to ESPN.
Talks between the two parties remain ongoing, with a deal expected to be signed soon, a source confirmed to ESPN.

FC Cincinnati officially exercised a buyout option for Miazga earlier this week, taking into consideration roster rules. A source added that the decision was made purely from a squad compliance perspective.

“FC Cincinnati have waived defender Matt Miazga and utilized a buyout of a guaranteed contract,” MLS said in a press release. “The 31-year-old center back will no longer occupy a spot on FCC’s roster or count against their 2026 salary budget, retroactive to Sept. 2.”
Miazga joined FC Cincinnati in 2022, recording two goals in 88 MLS regular season appearances. He earned the MLS Defender of the Year award in 2023 for his impressive season with Cincinnati, becoming the first player to clinch the honor with over 25% of the votes.
The defender has also made 22 appearances for the U.S. men’s national team. He formed part of the squads that won the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup and 2020 Concacaf Nations League.
