Yan Diomande completes big-money move to Real Madrid from RB Leipzig

Real Madrid have signed teenage star Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, the Spanish club confirmed.

The 19-year-old has signed a seven-year deal, Madrid said in a statement.

Diomande, 19, was one of football’s most in-demand talents after impressing in Germany’s Bundesliga last season — scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists — and then excelling with Ivory Coast at the World Cup.

A source told ESPN that Madrid will pay a €125 million ($144m) fee, plus €10 million in easily-achievable bonuses and a further €5 million in bonuses that are harder to achieve.

If those bonuses are achieved, the deal would represent a record transfer for Madrid, eclipsing what was paid for Jude Bellingham in 2023 and Eden Hazard in 2019.

ESPN reported last week that Madrid were close to sealing a deal for Diomande, but the final agreement was then held up as the two clubs discussed the details, sources said.

He left RB Leipzig’s preseason camp on Thursday morning to undergo a medical in Spain ahead of his move being confirmed.

Diomande is the latest arrival in a busy summer for Real Madrid, who have already signed Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries and Carlos Espí this window.

Madrid are looking to win back LaLiga under new coach José Mourinho, having gone two seasons without winning a major trophy.

As recently as 2024, Diomande was playing at DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida, before a move to Spanish club Leganés.

There, he initially played for the reserve team, but showed enough promise in just a few months to join Leipzig in a €20 million deal in July 2025.

He was named the Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Season for 2025-26, starring as Leipzig finished third in the table, and then shone as one of the World Cup’s most exciting young players this summer as Ivory Coast advanced to the round of 32.

Paris Saint-Germain had been strongly linked with Diomande — as well as attracting interest from the Premier League — before Madrid made their move.

Nathan Campbell, Roc Nation Sports International’s head of global football recruitment and Diomande’s agent told ESPN: “In one of the first conversations we had with Yan, he immediately mentioned that Real Madrid was his dream club to move to one day. At that time, we could have never had predicted that this opportunity would arrive so soon, but there was always only ever going to be one answer once Real Madrid expressed interest.”

Information from ESPN’s Tom Hamilton and Leonard Solms contributed to this story.
