Cody Gakpo is one of a number of forwards Manchester City are monitoring ahead of the transfer deadline, sources have told ESPN.

City have enquired about Gakpo’s potential availability although the club have not yet made direct contact with Liverpool.

The Dutchman started and scored in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle on Sunday. So far this summer Liverpool have insisted they want to keep Gakpo, but their stance could change if replacements arrive at Anfield before the end of the window.

Liverpool remain in negotiations for Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola and have had two bids rejected for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yankuba Minteh.

Tottenham have also shown interest in Gakpo.

City have boosted their forward line with the signing of Brazilian winger Allan from Palmeiras after a €40 million (£34m) deal was agreed on Monday.

With Savinho and Omar Marmoush both set to move to Tottenham, there is room in Enzo Maresca‘s squad for another winger.

Chelsea‘s Pedro Neto has also been considered along with Gakpo.

City are also keen to bring in another midfielder with Nico González close to joining Newcastle United.

He would be the fourth senior midfielder to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer after the departures of Bernardo Silva, Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders.

Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi has arrived in Manchester to finalise his €100m move from Lille and there is still interest in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández.

The Argentinian was named on the bench for Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Fulham on Monday before coming on as a second-half substitute.

Information from ESPN’s Beth Lindop contributed to this report.
