The knockout stage has officially begun, so it’s win or go home for the remaining countries at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Monday’s round-of-32 games saw six teams play for the chance to join Canada in the round of 16. Brazil became the second team to progress, coming from a goal down to top Japan with a second-half stoppage-time winner.

Later in the day, Germany were knocked out by Paraguay in an enthralling penalty shootout, before the Netherlands-Morocco game was also decided from the spot.
