Man City’s Khadija Shaw wins second PFA Women’s player of the year award

Manchester City forward Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has been named women’s player of the year for the second time by the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA).

Shaw was handed the prize on Tuesday by the PFA at their annual prizegiving ceremony in Manchester after storming to her third consecutive golden boot in the Women’s Super League.

She hit 21 goals in the WSL last term, eight clear of Arsenal‘s Alessia Russo — who was also in the six-player shortlist that included Shaw’s teammate Yui Hasewaga, Chelsea‘s Lauren James, Jess Park of Manchester United and Kirsty Hanson of Aston Villa.

Shaw’s award comes after City won their second WSL title to break a six-season spell of Chelsea dominance and securing FA Cup glory for the fourth time.

The 29-year-old won the award for the first time after the 2023-24 season, and becomes only the third player to do so more more than once, after Lucy Bronze and Sam Kirby.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s Olivia Smith was named the women’s PFA young player of the year for a second consecutive year.

With 38 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 10 goals, she hit a superb strike from outside the box on her debut against London City — scooping the WSL goal of the month award for September 2025, one month after winning her first PFA prize.

Smith, 22, became the first women’s player to command a transfer fee of £1 million last July when she moved to north London from Liverpool.

She is the only non-English player to win the award, representing Canada. Her teammates Russo, Mariona Caldentey and Emily Fox were all named in the team of the year.
