Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign winger Malick Fofana from Lyon on a five-year contract, sources have told ESPN.
Fofana, 21, is set to join Sunderland for a deal worth up to €35m.The transfer fee is €30m up front with a potential additional €5m.
Fofana is a significant coup for Sunderland. The Belgian winger was attracting plenty of interest from around Europe, and was linked with Premier League champions Arsenal.
Sources told ESPN that Arsenal were offered the chance to bid for him on Monday but he’s set to sign for Sunderland.

The winger is set to sign a deal through to 2031 and is understood to be excited by Sunderland’s ambition and the prospect of Europa League football.
It’s likely to be a busy day at Sunderland. Kevin Danso is expected to sign for Sunderland on a season-long loan deal, with an option to make the move permanent for £25m, sources have told ESPN.
