Harvey Elliott leaves Liverpool on loan for Valencia

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has joined Spanish side Valencia on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old endured a difficult 2025-26 campaign on loan at Aston Villa, where he made just one Premier League start after manager Unai Emery made it clear he did not want to trigger the player’s £35 million ($41m) obligation to make the move a permanent transfer.

Elliott returned to Liverpool for preseason this summer and featured during their preseason tour of the United States. However, he has not managed to convince new head coach Andoni Iraola to include him in his plans for this season, having been left out of the matchday squads for Liverpool’s opening two Premier League games against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.

Sources told ESPN the deal is for a straight loan with no option for Valencia to make the move permanent. Elliott, who has scored 15 goals in 149 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, is under contract at Anfield until 2028.

After arriving in Valencia on Monday evening, the former England youth international told reporters: “I’m truly grateful for this opportunity. I’m going to play my best here.

“I know the club’s history and I know it demands a lot of hard work. I’m going to give everything I have for Valencia. To be honest, it all happened pretty fast. I was just waiting for the call and made sure I was ready to come here and play, which is exactly what I’m doing. I’m here now and looking forward to the weekend.

“I hope to lead Valencia to European football. As I’ve said, it’s an incredible club and I want to do everything I can for it. I believe that, especially with the team we have, we are capable of achieving it. It’s going to be a difficult season, but I’m very confident.”

Valencia, who finished ninth in LaLiga last season, have taken one point from three matches to start the new league campaign.
