Man United loan teen striker Chido Obi to Dutch side Willem II

Manchester United striker Chido Obi has joined Dutch side Willem II on a season-long loan deal.

United said in Wednesday’s announcement that the 18-year-old had been loaned to the Eredivisie club “to gain further senior experience.”

The Denmark under-21 international made eight senior appearances for United under Ruben Amorim during the 2024-25 campaign, but did not feature last term and only made the bench once.

Instead, Obi played regularly for United’s under-21s and helped the club reach the FA Youth Cup final. Across 37 appearances in all competitions, Obi scored 20 goals.

The transfer window in the Netherlands remained open until the end of Wednesday, allowing Willem II to complete the deal after the window closed in England the previous day.

Another Man United striker, Joshua Zirkzee, was the subject of a late bid from Everton on Tuesday, ESPN reported.

The approach was made as Everton’s move for United States striker Folarin Balogun collapsed in the final hours of the window.

Sources told ESPN that the offer for Zirkzee was for a season-long loan with an option to make the move permanent. It was rejected by United after they decided the interest had come too late, leaving the club with no time to find a replacement.

Information from ESPN’s Rob Dawson and PA contributed to this report.
