Manchester United completed the signing of Mexico international Rebeca Bernal from the Washington Spirit on Wednesday.
Bernal, who becomes the first Mexican player to compete in England‘s Women‘s Super League, has signed a contract until June 2029.
The 29-year-old midfielder began her career with Monterrey, where she featured 223 times before joining Washington Spirit.
During her spell with the National Women’s Soccer League team, she made 50 appearances and lifted the Challenge Cup.

“We’re appreciative of Rebe’s valuable contributions to this club over the past year and a half,” Spirit sporting director James Hocken said in a team release. “She played a key role in helping the Spirit win last year’s Challenge Cup and make our second consecutive NWSL final.
“She has helped set the professional standard at the Spirit and we look forward to following her success in England.”
On the international stage, Bernal captains Mexico and has won 78 caps for her country, scoring nine goals.
She arrives at United on the eve of their Women’s Super League opener, an away clash against London City Lionesses on Friday night.

“I have experienced a lot of special moments in my career; the privilege of representing Manchester United is truly incredible,” Bernal told the United website.
“It is clear that I am joining a great environment, Eva [Olid] is an excellent coach, and you can see the determination throughout the whole squad to be successful.
“I cannot wait to begin this new chapter; to give everything, bringing all of my experience and passion, to help push the team and fight together to achieve our ambitions.”
