Federico Chiesa has been left out of Liverpool’s squad for the league phase of the 2026-27 Champions League.

The Italy international is joined by Wataru Endo among those omitted by new boss Andoni Iraola.

Liverpool confirmed their squad ahead of the start of their European campaign against Atlético Madrid at Anfield on Sept. 9.

Both players will be unavailable for the league phase unless Liverpool are able to make a permitted change to their squad, normally injury related.

UEFA rules limit sides to a 25-player List A, with eight places reserved for ‘locally trained’ players, of which four must have been at the club for three seasons between the ages of 15 and 21.

Younger players can be registered separately on List B if they meet UEFA’s age and development requirements, but Chiesa and Endo are not eligible.

The 28-year-old misses out with summer arrival Víctor Muñoz included, alongside Conor Bradley, who is continuing his rehabilitation from a knee injury in February. Giovanni Leoni, who suffered an ACL tear in September 2025, is also on the list.

Chiesa is currently out with a muscle injury, though a long-term absence is not expected.

Endo made only eight Premier League appearances in 2025-26, seven of them from the bench, while he featured just once in Liverpool’s run to the Champions League quarterfinals.

The Reds will play eight fixtures at this stage of the competition, with home games against Atlético, Porto, Villarreal and Lens.

They will travel to face Austrian side LASK, Fenerbahce, Club Brugge and Inter Milan.

Liverpool have instead included injured forward Hugo Ekitike in their squad despite the Frenchman currently being sidelined.

As expected, Ekitike’s compatriot Bradley Barcola is on the list after his move from Paris Saint-Germain, worth up to £123 million ($166 million).
